FABRICATION WORKSHOP - T.FAB
The T.FAB are academic sources of applied research. The Students get closer to the complexities of construction and the materialization of ideas. They focus their experimentality in the role, which is difficult to find in other Latin-American Universities; ergo they focus their exploration object in concrete issues and not only in formal speculations or in large-scale interventions detached from the realities of our countries and even also in some countries outside of Latin America. That is also happening in many institutions for the carefree management of new technology. We try to establish a mixed practice between popular knowledge and daily practices of our contexts, mixing them with new protocols and emerging technologies. There have been many applications and we can guide them according to the interests of each school or each particular context. For example: some of them have been focused on rescue the traditional techniques of construction both in housing and furniture, boats and other heritage objects. Others are inquired in new ways of assembly based on a critical view to the industrial culture, deriving in Hybrid Technologies that incorporates recycled or second hand materials and print in it a way of second life. This issue specifically concerns us a lot, work against the obsolescence and get in discarded objects a new way to incorporate them to the social dynamics. We also have delved into skins, walls and permeable systems for the tropics what has become in thermal control surfaces and energy for building components markets applied to buildings. Some of the Fabrication Workshops (T.FAB) has even been given from work processes in communities, where we experimented with local intelligent and engaged with the community’s teachers, trying to incorporated young apprentices and transfer knowledge and raising awareness the possibility of working with alternative materials. In many of these cases, we not only develop objects but also tools, techniques and protocols, which later we record and objectify for make it intelligible and communicable as applied knowledge

EXPLORING THE INDUSTRIES’ MEASUREMENT:
DESIGN STARTING FROM THE COMPONENT NOTION
Architecture and industrial design are professional practices that imply to work over matter. This commitment with the material world is intrinsic to its constructive mean. The emergence of new systematic production materials and machinery, motivates substantial transformations in constructive processes; however buildings are dressed with a wide range of options, and in many of cases, skin is subordinated to market’s offers in construction components. In the last few years, an imbalance in the market has increased, and the desynchronization between demand and offer of these operational materials and components in the industry, which ends in unstable manufacturing processes in terms of diversity, time and financial planning.
These days, most of the manufacturing industry is assisted by quick prototyping machinery that minimizes human incidents and injects more precision, efficiency and performance to the productivity, however, not being yet completely available in a local context. This makes the manufacturing methods difficult, but brings experimentality, resistance and subjectivity to analogue or craft processes.
Merging manufacture and mechanization advanced techniques with a deep approach of craft knowledge and the assembly process, developed models accomplish to bond the production industry with the construction industry, confronting professional practice as a construction innovation action. These polls or analysis in the core of the material industry and the constructive components market has progressively identified an applied research ground, that for a decade now is being explored by fabrication workshops as an alternative to the Latin-American problem.
The last two experimental exercises done in the Fabrication workshops have had as north the research of constructive components, introducing fabrication processes to students, having a closer look to an academic exercise on the gene that configures the building and that allows its assemble.
